ART_Custom Helix Pick Guard

IMG_1251 I get so excited whenever I get a commission for a new pick guard because they are so small that I can do them quickly, yet I still get to challenge myself with the placement of images and text on such an odd shape. This request was from a guitar-playing biologist, that wanted a gold guard with outline, his initials, and an (accurate) DNA helix. He gave me freedom with choosing the script for his initials, and I decided to use the Gibson guitar font because that's what model this guard will get screwed onto. I am excited to have done another guard and like the eye catching look of this one!

Also check out the video at the bottom of this post to watch the sketching and painting process of this piece!

ART_Tropical Pomeranian Skateboard Deck

DSC_1235jpg I have yet another skateboard for you today! This was commissioned board that I did for a friend to give to her boyfriend. It was a pretty unique request, blue tropical flowers with a running pomeranian and their anniversary in "thug" font.

I wanted to include this photo when just the background was finished, because I really liked how it turned out.

I also made another process video because I think it's a cool addition to the photos, so check it out or see more photos below!

ART_"Guster" Skateboard Deck

DSC_1230 I have another music inspired deck to share with you today! After working with a client on this board, she asked me to paint another board for her and of course I said yes. This time she wanted me to reinterpret the album cover of Lost and Gone Forever by Guster. She asked for me to just focus on the main boy and also paint him in stencil style similar to Banksy.

I also wanted to share more of my process with you today. I started by playing around with the album cover in Photoshop, and ended up with this.

For the rest of the painting process, you can watch this quick iPhone video I made featuring music from the album. Otherwise, there are more detail photos below!

DIY_Wildfox Inspired Aztec Tank

wildfox diy intro Wildfox falls into the category of "I am obsessed with but don't actually own anything from" brands. That's why when I spotted this tank dress on Instagram a few days ago, I knew I had to recreate it. I'm very into the aztec print trend and when I found a plain white tank in my craft drawer, I couldn't hold back!

wildfox diy steps

1. The supplies you will need are: a long white tank (mine is an XL men's tank from H&M given to me by a friend when he cleaned out his closet), black fabric paint, a paintbrush, and a canvas.

As a side note, I was confident enough in my painting skills that I did this freehand. If you aren't you can make your own stamps and do it that way. I have a tutorial on craft foam stamped tops here !

2. I stretched my tank over a plain canvas to create some structure while I painted. You could also do this with cardboard, but this was my first time with a canvas and it was great!

3. Begin painting (or stamping) your design on. Start in the center and work outwards in order to keep things symmetrical.

4. Continue applying your design. If you are finding that the paint isn't fluid enough, mix in a little bit of water.

And here is the finished product. I am just too pleased with this because it is so similar to the original and well, I saved $86!

Stay tuned in the next few days because I am going to style this tank in an outfit post as soon as it stops raining!
