Into the Great Wide Open

IMG_1755 Finally a cold day has passed through and I got to pull out my prized Unif AWOL jacket. Since buying it in Chicago I hadn't had a chance to wear it, but today was the day. Lately I'm loving the look of neon mixed with neutrals (especially camo as a neutral) even though I think this trend is a little out of style, but I could care less about that. When you're going to wear one of your favorite pieces in your closet, why not throw on another? Which for me are my vintage Docs. They just complete an outfit so well in my opinion.

Today's outfit track is one that I felt went well with the camp/neon/tye-dye coming from this outfit. Listen along to "Into the Great Wide Open" by Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers while you view, here!

P.S. How awesome are these nails I got at Target? They are stick-on with a simple peel-off back, but they seriously last so long. They feel really strong on my nails and even made it through a beach day this weekend. Obsessed!

OOTD_95 "Starlight"

DSC_1135 This gloomy day needed to be brightened up so I pulled out my new pastel ombre sweater. I have big heart eyes for this baby. Black may be the safest color route to style this piece, but comfort was my ultimate goal for the school day so I ended up piling them all on to stay warm. Even though this outfit is very casual, I feel like it embodies my favorite kind of casual skater style.

The title of today's outfit post is "Starlight" by Tonight Alive. I know I've recently used their music on here, but I'm going to their concert a week from today and can't wait. You can listen along below while you view!

OOTD_86: Studio Review

DSC_0762 Today was my mid-review for studio, so I always like to wear a dress or skirt, and wear something that is professional but still exciting. This dress is a go to in my closet because it's a neutral but it still bold and graphic. The cut of it really suits being paired with an oversized blazer like this one. You may remember this outfit a while back as well where I styled this dress for a school day. Finally, it's great to add a decisive pop of color to your outfit when making a presentation, so I finished off my look with this bright statement necklace I made a while back. This was a piece of a small "collection" my friend Ariana and I worked on a while back, which I plan to share more on later. This quarter we have been experimenting with other students and our professor with digitally fabricated jewelry which is really exciting!

Don't forget you can always quickly change up your look with your hair! I tried a middle part today because I feel like my hair is finally long enough, and I really liked how it streamlined my look.

ARCHITECTURE_Lasercut Chandelier

DSC_0751 I've been dying to share about this project ever since I finished it in the fall, but had to wait until I hung it up and it could be properly displayed. I made this chandelier last quarter for an annual furniture competition at my school that is held for architecture students. I created the fixture out of plumbing pipe, and then laser cut the "crystals" out of plexiglass. I chose to keep these materials in their raw form because I wanted to create something beautiful that had an honest materiality and was made out of unexpected items. The choice to make my own crystals was also due to the fact that chandelier crystals are very expensive, and I wanted to create a dialogue about digital fabrication.

By the way, these crystals may be familiar if you've seen this necklace I made and wore in this outfit post.

Below I've included the poster that was displayed next to my piece at the show, and talks a little more about the concept of the project!

Next I've included some process photos. I cut and assembled the pipe frame in my school's wood shop, and spent two days in my studio using jewelry jump rings to hook all of the pieces together--there were over 1,000 individual crystals!

And finally, here are the photos of the finished product hanging up in my home! I'm so excited to have it displayed and want to create a little seating area underneath it.

Thanks so much for reading! I will be posting another lighting fixture project made out of plumbing pipe that is a little simpler if you want to make one yourself, so stay tuned for that. Until then, keep up with all my projects on Instagram @punkrockparti.
