OOTD 68_"Campus"

DSC_0209 With rain in the forecast, I knew it would be the perfect day to pull out my oversized "geek" sweater and Doc Martens. Coincidentally, "Geek Chic" was the challenge of the day over at Coast to Coast Challenge, so I knew my outfit choice was perfect! I spiced up this look with some studs and polka dots, and couldn't resist throwing on my big pair of glasses to completely geek myself out.

The outfit track for today is "Campus" by Vampire Weekend. The collegiate vibe of this song is perfect for a day of class and hitting the books. Listen along here while you read!

DSC_0197 For today's outfit I styled my latest DIY project which was this triangle stamped top. As I mentioned in the tutorial, the print still allows the top to remain a neutral so I paired it with these colored BDG jeans from Urban Outfitters and then just mixed in the finishing pieces in more neutral tones. I'm also loving wearing these heels in my outfit posts lately for the added height, but let's be honest, I'm off to the dentist today and you know I won't be wearing these there!

DIY_Craft Foam Stamped Top

DSC_0106 It's no secret that stamped tees have been circulating the blogosphere, and I wanted to make my own. This top is great because you have the freedom to make any design you want by making the stamps yourself out of craft foam! It's also very inexpensive because foam costs less than 70 cents and my fabric paint was $1.59. Enjoy!

DSC_0049

The supplies you will need are: a shirt (mine was $5 at Wal-Mart), some fabric paint, craft foam, scissors, a paper plate, adhesive/glue, a pen, and a paintbrush (optional)

DSC_0050

Begin by cutting your desired shape out of the craft foam. Mine was a triangle in two different sizes. After cutting one shape, trace it onto the craft foam twice and create two more identical shapes.

DSC_0053

Stack and adhere the three identical shapes together with some glue or sticky squares like I did because I couldn't find any glue...

DSC_0054

Attach the stack to a square piece of craft foam to create the stamp. Spread the fabric paint onto the paper plate and dip your stamp into the paint. Make sure you have even coverage.

DSC_0057

Begin stamping your desired pattern onto the shirt. I alternated between the two sizes, and had the triangles pointing both up and down. I also created sets of two or three triangles for variation.

DSC_0056

You can also go in with a paintbrush if your stamp didn't create a completely filled in triangle shape, and just touch up the design a little.

And here's the finished printed shirt! I'm really pleased with this top and it was very inexpensive. This is a good way to spice up a basic top while still keeping it as a neutral.

Check back a later tomorrow when I feature this top in my outfit of the day post!

hi everyone! today i kept my outfit low-key but still stylish because i was headed to the beach and pumpkin farm with my parents. i wouldn't normally wear my rainbows with a nice outfit, but i think that the braided detail and brown leather was just what this look needed.

this gold forearm bangle that im wearing is actually an embroidery supply from the craft store that was only 59 cents!

this necklace used to have 3 triangles stacked but 2 broke off--i like it better this way anyway!

finally, i'd like to encourage that you dig around in your closet and find some pieces that you haven't worn in a while and give them new life. sometimes if you keep some items in your closet long enough, they will come back into style again. the brown leather purse and khaki green jacket i'm wearing were really inexpensive items i've had for years, but never wore much when i first got them. now, i wear them all of the time and am so glad that i hung onto them!
