Utilitarian Layering in Malmö

IMG_7634 At 10 AM this morning my friends and I hopped on a train to hang out in Malmö for the day! Sweden is only an inexpensive 25 minute train ride from my apartment, and with a free day to explore we figured why not? Since being gone for an entire day necessitates being prepared for anything, I decided to work with layering a dress, tank top, tights, and a rain jacket. I think the colorful tank top kept the look from being too basic. Although this coat is your pretty standard black rain jacket, I love that it is cinched at the waist. It still gives me a shape and feels feminine!

My friends Elsa, Sheila, and I had a fun adventure today! Malmö is a bit smaller than I expected, but we got to see the famous Turning Torso building, and a few other cool finds like this bridge in the harbor. I thought you might like to see my lovely friends and what they were wearing as well! Aren't they the cutest? They are the best for always putting up with my outfit documentation.

Copenhagen Style Staples

I know I keep saying it, but my departure for Copenhagen is fast approaching! I already shared some of my picks, but the preparation continues and I have my eye on a few more things. Check out my picks and advice! Print

1/ Just picked up these adorable heeled rain boots from UO. I love that they will be a pop of color against black denim on rainy days!

2/ I have a favorite leather jacket I'll be throwing in my suitcase, but I also love two-tone versions like this one by drool-worthy brand Unif.

3/ One very real aspect of Copenhagen is that it will be cold. Really. Cold. I'm in need of warm socks, like this Obey Menswear pair.

4/ Recently scored these See You Monday bandana print leggings. I wore them in a recent outfit post and psst...you can get them at Wet Seal cheaper than anywhere else!

5/ Not exactly a fashionable item, but every girl needs a good stash of adapters when traveling to make sure her tresses are perfect and gadgets are charged!

6/ When you're busy sightseeing, the last thing you want to worry about it losing your important docs! I love a wool passport holder to keep it all safe.

7/ My Timbuk2 backpack has been my best friend for the past year. It holds my huge laptop and keeps me organized, and will be great for all the bike riding I'll be doing in Denmark!

Thanks for joining me on this exciting journey!

Over It All

IMG_5112 Today I was busy painting and checking things off of my to-do list, and overalls were the perfect utilitarian choice for getting work done! I picked these babies up at Goodwill last week (half off sale, ya!) and boy were they ugly. The denim was an awful, cheap looking wash. However when I got them home, I just cut them into shorts, bleached them a little, and then cuffed them and I was good to go! Today I wore them in a skater style with my favorite Vans snapback and high tops, but I also can't wait to wear them with a simple topknot and white tee.

One of the things on my to-do list today was adding new items to my Threadflip store! I listed 23 new items so go check it out, they are already selling fast! You can find my store here, or anytime on the righthand sidebar of my blog. Thanks so much for reading guys, I hope you had a great Saturday!

On Site

IMG_4470 I have a bit of a love affair with this building. I drive past it twice a day going to and coming from work, and always sneak a peek as I go by. Yesterday I just had to stop and get a closer look. I love the blue-toned glass front and brick facade. Yeah...I'm basically obsessed with this little structure. But I'll have more on that in another post! As for my outfit, I loved how the rugged exterior went well with my utilitarian vest and purse. Although this purse might look like a girly piece, I consider it utilitarian because it is roomy and has so many pockets, allowing me to tote my DSLR and sketchbook wherever I go.

For work I wore just this dress with a pair of silver Toms and it just felt way too girly for me. I threw on my vest and boots and soon as I got home. Although I couldn't wear this vest to work so I had an exception, I always try remember to stay true to myself and my personal style. It will give you a lot more confidence when you're just being you!
